Biography
Cathy Clarke is a playwright, screenwriter, freelance creative writer, director, and educator trained at Queen’s University. Founder of Scenes for High School Drama Students during the early days of the Internet, Cathy started her writing career creating and curating a variety of scripts to be used free of charge to students and professionals through her Geocities website. Many Scenes for High School Student scripts were featured on international stages, drama and speech competitions in addition to being used in academic training settings. Currently the Department Head of Dance, Dramatic Arts and Theatre Arts at Arts Mackenzie, Cathy facilitates one of the enriched arts education secondary school program for York Region District School Board students. Cathy’s directing credits include The Mousetrap, The Miracle Worker, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Antigone, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Charlotte’s Web, The Importance of Being Earnest, Grease, Honk, Music Man, Fame, As You Like It, Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), Kiss Me Kate, That Elusive Spark, Cinderella, Crazy for You, Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserables (School Edition) and Wizard of Oz. Cathy is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers, Council of Drama and Dance Teachers, holds Theatre Arts, Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay teaching qualifications for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, is a supporting member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada, and has previously served on the Town of Richmond Hill’s Cultural Leadership Council. Current projects include contributing on pitch and writing teams for feature films and animated shorts. In addition to Cathy’s work in creative writing and arts education, Cathy is a trained stage manager and proficient with graphic design and the Adobe Suite.
